The COVID-19 pandemic has caused an unexpected public health emergency in the years 2020-21, affecting almost all governments and territories around the world.

The pandemic has caused major difficulties in daily life, including closing schools.

It has an impact on over 240 million school-aged children in our country. School closures for an extended period may lead to a loss of learning.

Therefore the educational department of India has taken several initiatives for these difficulties.

The government has launched various online courses, TV channels, radio, podcasts, etc to overcome this.

Here in this post, we will see one of the initiatives about PM eVidya 2022 online learning platform TV channel for classes 1 to 12.

To offset the pandemic’s impact, schools will need to not only remodel and re-imagine how teaching and learning have been done in the past.

But also develop a proper approach to delivering excellent education through a reasonable balance of schooling at home and learning at school.

The Educational Department has taken many steps to ensure that school-aged children do not fall behind in their academics as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.

And one of them is a comprehensive initiative for using technology with equity, called Pradhan Mantri eVIDYA, which has been launched as part of the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Programme.

Which coordinates all initiatives linked to digital/online/on-air education to offer multi-mode access to education.

You may think that all educational content is available completely for free on YouTube then why eVidya program runs on TV?

But many kids across the country do not have an internet connection. Swayam Prabha DTH channel will be launched to impart education to all of those pupils.

Under this strategy, the government would also launch 12 other comparable channels. A Diksha portal, which has included e-content and QR code printed books for all classes, has also been deployed.

Each of the following components is being created in such a way that the same e-content that is available in one digital model is also available in others.

PM e-Vidya has the following components:

DIKSHA

DIKSHA stands for Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing. This platform is also a program in Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan 3.0.

DIKSHA- ‘one nation one digital platform’ for school education, on which 35 states and UTs have their vertical in addition to NCERT, CBSE, and NIOS.

DIKSHA is available as a web portal and a mobile application. It contains e-learning content in 31 Indian languages for students in grades 1 to 12.

It also includes courses for teacher capacity training that have been uploaded by the states and the centre in a variety of languages. DIKSHA currently has 100,000 or more pieces of e-content.

One class, one TV channel – Swayam Prabha

Swayam Prabha DTH channels assist and reach out to students who do not have an internet connection.

Under the Ministry Of Education, there is a total of 32 broadcasting channels for providing high-quality educational videos or lectures.

And under eVidya, 12 TV channels are providing these facilities.

E-content for Open School(NIOS)

The Government of India established the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) in 1989.

The program’s goal is to provide education to students who are unable to attend traditional schools (for any other reason) with the same educational opportunities as those who do.

NIOS has also begun broadcasting a daily 8-hour live programme on Pradhan Mantri eVidya channels for classes 10 and 12.

It is to provide ongoing learning support for learners at the secondary and senior secondary levels, including Vocational Courses and content based on Indian Sign Language.

On the SWAYAM portal, online MOOC courses related to NIOS (open schooling grades 9 to 12) are available.

Extensive use of Radio, Community radio and podcast

For children in distant locations who do not have access to the internet, radio broadcasting is used.

NCERT creates high-quality audio/radio programmes that include effective media treatment, such as appropriate music and sound effects, as well as the engagement of qualified and skilled artists with a strong media reputation.

The majority of these radio shows are produced in Hindi, English, Sanskrit, and Urdu.

These programmes are divided into two categories:

  • Curriculum-based audio programmes for grades 1 to 8, and
  • Programs for enrichment, infotainment, and edutainment.

E-content for visually and hearing-impaired students

One DTH channel is dedicated to hearing-impaired pupils who use sign language.

Study materials in the DAISY and sign language have been produced for visually and hearing-impaired students and both are available on the NIOS website/YouTube.

On DIKSHA, 55 NCERT textbooks in audio format from various grades have been uploaded. Further, NIOS has submitted 82 sign language videos for CWSN to the DIKSHA platform.

25 NCERT textbooks have been converted into DAISY format, largely in English and Hindi, and 10 videos for CWSN from CIET have been uploaded on the DIKSHA portal.
