Overview Of Telangana Aasara Pension Scheme

The introduction of the “Aasara” pension scheme by the Telangana Government in November 2014 was a welfare measure aimed at providing a secure life with dignity for the most vulnerable sections of society.

The scheme specifically targeted the old and infirm, people with HIV-AIDS, widows, incapacitated weavers and toddy tappers, who had lost their means of livelihood due to age or other circumstances.

Its objective was to support their minimum day-to-day needs and ensure social security for them.

Prior to the introduction of the Aasara pension scheme, the monthly pension for eligible individuals was Rs. 200/-.

However, in recognition of the increasing cost of living and inflation, the government decided to enhance the pension amount.

Under the new scheme, the monthly pension was increased to Rs. 1000/- for old age persons, widows, weavers, toddy tappers, and people with HIV-AIDS.

Similarly, disabled persons saw an increase in their pension from Rs. 500/- to Rs. 1500/-.
